Compliments of Paul Wolfe (www.How-To-Play-Bass.com), this month features a free transcription of You’re My Everything by The Temptations (Bass line by James Jamerson).

As Paul details in the introduction of the transcription:
It’s the kind of mid tempo song that doesn’t seem to exist anymore - and the one and only James Jamerson was the bassist on the track.

There’s a great version of this track on the outstanding Deluxe 2 CD version
of “Standing In The Shadows Of Motown” - the CD that came out just after the acclaimed documentary film of the same name - and that version has been remixed and just has vocals and bass. If you don’t have this CD you should head over to Amazon and get it - there’s quite a few tracks that have been remixed to strip away some of the instruments and make Jamerson’s bass lines really audible.

Here’s how the transcription lays out:
Letter A: Intro - 0.00
Letter B: Verse 1 - 0.14
Letter C: Chorus 1 - 0.35
Letter D: Verse 2 - 0.54
Letter E: Chorus 2 - 1.14
Letter F: Bridge - 1.34
Letter G: Verse 3 - 2.03

I’ve provided the transcription in notation - and in notation with tab. The tabbed positions I’ve indicate aren’t where I think Jamerson originally played it, but are positions that suit my own fingering system. Depending on the size of your hands, your fingering system and the scale of your bass, you may want to change this around.
